And why not the mongoos or Wrath?

Because if so, the Mongoose is probably not the best choice (I have never used a wrath, so I can't give an opinion on that). My brother has a Diablo Mongoose. In fact, I'm looking at it right now. I'll break it down for you:
Barrel: stock barrel sucks. My bro's got a 32 degrees whisper on his (came with it when he bought it from a friend of mine).
Trigger: Terrible. You can shoot faster then a mech gun, but not by much (I think my mech autococker can outshoot it, or at least match it, with it's slide trigger). It's impossible to walk - too much of a pull, not enough force to bring it back in time. I mean, it's spring - what can you expect?
Body: Nicely milled for it's price. A tad heavy. It might get you a few looks - it's definitely not an ugly gun. My brother's had some problems with leaking in the expansion chamber and the front end of the gun, but I htink it was just because he screwed it up.
Drop forward: it's nice, but a tad too tall for my liking (I prefer a low profile - you may not). The gauge on it is crap, though. The one on my brothers is cracked and broken after about 2 1/2 years of use.
What I suggest is finding a cheap Ion for sale on ebay. Either that or save up a bit more and get a ProMaster (I can't vouch for the Promaster though - I've never even seen one in real life).
When it comes down to it, if you can get an Ion for ~$285, tank for $80, and hopper (like an egg or something) for about $60, you're running up to about $425 - no price to scoff at. I would suggest looking around a bit more at different markers, maybe going down to your local pro shop or field and asking to try out some markers, and see what you like.
I'm also going to assume you're like the majority of us, and in your teenage years. So I would suggest maybe talking with your parents about earning some extra money - doing extra chores, maybe mowing peoples lawns. I myself am getting a part time job so that I can afford everything I want, which is also a possibility if you want to get serious about it.
The bottom line is, shop smart, find out what you like, and don't make decisions soley based on what a bunch of people said on an online forum

I really wouldnt get any Diablo gun if you want to play tourneys. The mongoose can most deff. not keep up with tourney guns, and the Wrath is unreliable. If you have 285, get an ion. If you want to play tourneys, stay away from blowbacks like tippmanns, spyders, and spyder clones (aka mongoose/system x etc.). The ion is the perfect upgrade from a spyder or spyder clone because it doesnt kick, its accurate w/ stock barrel, and its relatively cheap. And if your wondering about anti-siphoned co2, do not do it! A friend of mine put anti siphoned co2 on his impulsed and it basically blew up! N2 all the way. The ion is a good reliable marker just like u said as long as u dont mess it up yourself. And whenever u get an electro-pneumatic (non blowback) gun, read the manual!!!!!!!!!
BTW: that mongoose on ebay is the really old model. On pbgear.com theyve got the newer and better ones for like 170 brand new. They even have anti chop eyes.
